Glasses Galore!

Following the success of our Christmas Bazaar last year, I am delighted to say that on January 8th MCF was able to provide eye examinations for 60 children in one of our schools in the South East of Beijing. Of these 60, 56 of the children required glasses.

Upon arrival to the school we were greeted by lots of excited children eagerly awaiting their eye examinations and with good reason, considering this was a totally new experience for them. Even better was at the end of it all, they were given a range of frames to choose from which they explored with relish, trying on pair after pair, laughing and getting each other’s opinions on what colours and shapes suited them best.

Three days later and the glasses were ready. We returned to the school to the same greeting of excited children, but this time we came with gifts. As we gave out the spectacles it was wonderful to see the children running about, reading anything they could find from posters on the walls to notes at a distance, testing their vision with and without the glasses and laughing and cheering at the result.

It really was a heart warming sight and being part of it was not only lovely for the children, but for the volunteers as well.
