Why Volunteer with MCF?

Volunteering can be one of the most rewarding and valuable experiences of your life. The children and adults you'll be supporting through MCF will benefit hugely from everything you have to offer and, in return, you'll experience an unforgettable culture and a lifestyle unimaginable back home.

Program overview

Our volunteers spend one month in Beijing, living, working and socialising in close proximity of the migrant community they're supporting. From the moment you sign up as an MCF volunteer you'll receive:

  • Dedicated support with your visa and application process
  • Comprehensive orientation to living and working in China (introduction to local customs, laws, lifestyle and more)
  • Secure accommodation, all meals and airport pick up/drop off
  • 24/7 support from the MCF staff for the duration of your time in China
  • A one month teaching  placement in a local school
  • On-line access to teaching materials, fundraising resources and placement information
  • A completion certificate once you've finished your program
  • Free time to explore Beijing and other areas of China

What you can do as an MCF volunteer

Regardless of your skills or previous experience, you can make a valuable contribution in the schools we support, from assisting with computer maintenance to marking spelling tests! Our volunteer placements focus on assisting in English classes, but if you feel you have any of the following specific skills be sure to let us know during the application process and we'll do our best to allow you to put them to good use:

  • Coach a sport or team
  • Teach a musical instruments
  • Teach literacy skills
  • Paint and draw with classes
  • Set up basic IT systems
  • Share agriculture or horticulture knowledge
  • Teach needlework and handicrafts
  • Run first aid sessions
  • Teach songs and games
